50/50 75TH ANNIVERSARY RAFFLE WINNER ANNOUNCED!

Thank you to all our members that sold 50/50 tickets for our 75th Anniversary Celebration.  While falling short of our goal of raising $75,000, we are pleased to announce that we did get to $47,240!  On Saturday, March 16th at our Appreciation Event, the lucky winner was chosen!  A hush fell over the crowd when the ticket number was announced  - congratulations to our 50/50 raffle winner: Beth Oakley!

EARLY HISTORY
The first curling rink in the town of St. Albert was built downtown in 1949 next to the skating rink , right across from The Bruin Inn. It was a cold, two sheet natural ice rink. Frank Hesse and other curling volunteers built the wooden building......   More information

EVENTS

Our 75th Anniversary Celebration Open Funspiel is Feb 1,2,3, 2024!!  We'll party like it's 1949!  An old-time open funspiel with prizes reminiscent of "the good old days", like toasters, pickle dishes, transistor radios....!  Event nights are included for all registered teams, with finger foods offered on Thursday night and Friday night, wrapping up with a banquet and dance after the prize presentations on Saturday night.  Special prizes for the oldest participant, youngest, best team name, and of course the charming "Skunk" prize!  No gender restrictions, and we welcome any age and ability to participate.

32 Teams max, 6-end games, 3 games guaranteed.  Thursday & Friday draw times 5pm, 6:30pm, 8pm.  All day Saturday.

THROWBACKS

 

Hec Gervais "the friendly giant"

 

 "1961 Curling World Championship winners was the Canadian team that was all based in Alberta. St. Albert's Hector Gervais was skip, Vic Raymer second, third Ray Werner and lead was Wally Ursuliak (b.1929). The team won the trophy in Edinburgh by defeating Scotland on 30 March 1961. Hector Gervais (1934-1997) was known as"the friendly giant". He was a two-time Brier Champion and former Curling World Champion. Gervais Road in St. Albert is named after him as is the Hec Gervais Academic and Curling Scholarship."

We are a unique community facility offering  a variety of curling opportunities including youth and adult instruction, leagues, bonspiels and ice rental for corporate and community events, as well as special event space.  We are fully wheelchair accessible, including curling ice.
