Junior Gold & Stajed Christmas Games:
Every year, the Gold and Stajed youth let loose with games on ice: human curling, skills competitions, cross sheet curling and turkey shoot. This is followed up by some much deserved hot chocolate, cheese bread and treats. The classic best Christmas sweater is held and winners get a Swiss Chalet gift card. For the turkey shoot, the winner gets to take home the frozen turkey! Congratulations to Evi for her win in the turkey shoot! Special thank you to the parents that helped with the set up, serving hot chocolate and picture taking!
Christmas Dinner & Dance:
On November 30th, the 50+ League once again hosted it's Annual Christmas Dinner & Dance! The food was delicious (as always) with turkey, ham and all the fixins. The live band, Crystal Blue and the Persuasions had the folks jumping on the dancefloor! Every year, there are door prizes and a fund-raising prize raffle where the proceeds go towards the 50+ League Rock of Ages Curling Scholarship whereby deserving youth are selected to go to Alberta Rocks Youth Curling Camp.
Ladies Luncheon:
Once again, on December 6th, 2024, the Ladies held the traditional Christmas Luncheon at the club. It was wonderful to see old friends and catch up on their news. Our group was smaller than in the past but everyone who attended seemed to be enjoying themselves.
The lunch tradition started many years ago as a potluck lunch after the Ladies Friday Morning Curling League played their last game before Christmas. Each team brought a dish to share for the main course and something for dessert. The meals were always delicious with plenty of food for all. Someone suggested that we should also invite the ladies who had given up curling for various reasons to join us for lunch and to reminisce, so we expanded our attendees. There were even quite a few years where we had Christmas Carolling after lunch around the old piano! The best memories are of the camaraderie we all shared to celebrate the joy of the season!
Thank you to Vera Neveu for keeping this tradition going!
